Severe weather swept across the Midwest on Wednesday night, resulting in confirmed tornadoes in Illinois and Iowa.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a tornado was reported near Harpers Ferry, Iowa, at 5:10 p.m.

Why It's Important?

The tornadoes caused widespread damage in affected areas, particularly in Charleston, Illinois, where roads were blocked by fallen trees and power lines. Residents were advised to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. In Effingham County, multiple structures, including homes and farms, sustained significant damage, and several injuries were reported, though none were life-threatening. Power outages left tens of thousands of residents without electricity. The NWS warned of the potential for EF2 or stronger tornadoes, which can cause severe structural damage and pose a high risk to life and property. The situation remains hazardous as cleanup and recovery efforts begin.
